11:11 예수님께서 이 말씀을 하신후에, 또 그들에게 ``우리 친구 나사로가 잠들었습니다. 내가 가서 그를 깨워야겠습니다.`` 라고 하시니

12 제자들이 말씀드렸다. `` 주님 그가 잠들었다면 회복될 것입니다.``

13 예수님은 나사로의 죽음에 대하여 말씀하신 것이지만, 제자들은 잠들어 쉬는 것에 대하여 말씀하신 줄로 생각하였다.

14 그러자 예수님께서 그들에게 분명히 말씀하셨다. ``나사로는 죽었습니다.

15 여러분을 위하여 내가 거기에 있지 않은 것을 기뻐합니다. 이것은 여러분을 믿게 하려는 것입니다. 그러나 이제 그에게로 갑시다.``

16 디두모라고도 하는 도마가 동료 제자들에게 말하였다.``우리도 주님과 함께 죽으러 갑시다``

주님은 그분의 구원안에서 병든 사람들만을 치료하시는 것이 아니다. 그분은 또한 죽은사람들에게 생명을 주신다. 그러므로 그분은 병든 사람이 죽을때까지 이틀을 더 머무셨다. 이 사례는 사실상 죽음을 생명으로 바꾸는 것이었다.

I’ve found a friend in Jesus, He’s everything to me,

  He’s the fairest of ten thousand to my soul;

The Apple-tree of trees, in Him alone I see

  All I need to cleanse and make me fully whole.

In sorrow He’s my comfort, in trouble He’s my stay,

  He tells me every care on Him to roll:

He’s the Apple-tree of trees, the Bright and Morning Star,

  He’s the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.

He all my griefs has taken, and all my sorrows borne;

  In temptation He’s my strong and mighty tower;

I’ve all for Him forsaken, and all my idols torn

  From my heart, and now He keeps me by His power.

Though all the world forsake me, and Satan tempt me sore,

  Through Jesus I shall safely reach the goal:

He’s the Apple-tree of trees, the Bright and Morning Star,

He’ll never, never leave me, nor yet forsake me here,

  While I live by faith and do His blessed will;

A wall of fire about me, I’ve nothing now to fear,

  With His manna He my hungry soul shall fill.

Then sweeping up to glory to see His blessed face,

  Where rivers of delight shall ever roll:
