5:39 여러분이 성경안에서 영원한 생명을 얻는줄로 생각하기 때문에 성경을 자세히 연구하는데, 이 성경은 바로 나에 대하여 증언하는 것입니다.

40 그런데 여러분은 생명을 얻기 위하여 나에게 오려고 하지 않습니다.

41 나는 사람에게서 영광을 받지않습니다.

42 그러나 내가 여러분을 아는데 여러분속에 하나님께 대한 사랑이 없다는 것입니다

43 내가 아버지의 이름으로 왔으나 여러분은 나를 영접하기 않습니다. 그러나 다른 사람이 자기 이름으로 온다면, 여러분은 그를 영접할 것입니다.

44 여러분이 서로 영광을 주고 받으면서 유일하신 하나님에게서 오는 영광은 구하지 않으니, 어떻게 나를 믿을수 있겠습니까?

45 내가 여러분을 아버지께 고발할것이라고 생각하지 마십시오. 여러분을 고발하는  사람이 있는데,그는 여러분이 소망을 두고 있는 모세입니다.

46 여러분이 모세를 믿었더라면, 나를 믿었을 것입니다. 왜냐하면 그가 나를 기록하였기 때문입니다.

47 그러나 여러분이 모세의 글을 믿지않는다면 어떻게 나의 말을 믿겠습니까?

유대 종교인들은 성경을 자세히 연구하였지만,주님께 오려고는 하지않았다. 이 두가지는 병행되어야 한다. 성경이 주님에 대하여 증언하기 때문에,성경이 주님과 분리되어서는 안된다
